Research Paper

  • Module coordinators: Dr Ilke Van Beveren, Dr Tine Cappellen, Dr Dirk Rochtus, Dr Frank Hendrickx
  • Language: English
  • ECTS-credits: 6

Course objectives

Students are required to write a research paper about a topic related to European integration. Students can choose a specific research question (topic) from a list provided by the coordinators at the start of the academic year. Depending on the topic, a different promoter will be assigned. The topics will cover four broad areas of European integration:

  • Cultural aspects of European integration (Dr Tine Cappellen)
  • Political aspects of European integration (Dr Dirk Rochtus)
  • Social and legal aspects of European integration (Dr Frank Hendrickx)
  • Economic aspects of European integration (Dr Ilke Van Beveren)

The research paper is an individual assignment. Students will have the possibility to consult their promoter to receive feedback on their progress. The final paper should provide the reader with a critical and nuanced answer to the initial research question, based on an analysis of the available scientific literature. The research methodology used (quantitative or qualitative analysis) can depend on the research question and promoter. Students are expected to contact their promoter on a regular basis to discuss their progress and to determine the most appropriate research methodology.
