Research in the Department of Speech Language Therapy and Audiology is centred on the diagnostics of learning disabilities (dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia), phonological awareness in dyslexia, development and standardization of logopaedic screening tools and other key factors in SLT.
Current projects include research on the usefulness of the ‘All Children’s Language Test in Flanders’, the possibility of screening dyslexia with the help of the ‘Phonetic Consciousness Test’, and ‘Personality Structure of Stuttering Children’.
The department also boasts a Multi-Disciplinary Diagnostic Centre for Learning Disabilities, which was created in cooperation with the Department of Applied Psychology. On the one hand, the centre develops diagnostic tools for dyslexic adolescents in collaboration with national and international researchers in the field. On the other hand, the centre diagnoses students with dyslexia and dyscalculia.
The department also coordinated the 'Transnational Accreditation S tandards in Logopaedics’ project within the framework of Interreg III (2002-2005).
