Student exchange - formalities

Tempus, Erasmus and other foreign students who wish to study at Lessius University College for a semester or a whole academic year within the framework of a bilateral agreement, must pay the enrolment fee at their home university.

Please fill in the Online Application Form. Print it out and have it signed by your coordinator and send it to the coordinator of the department where you plan to study. (List of coordinators, pdf)

Deadline for the 1st semester: 15 June 2011

Deadline for the 2nd semester: 30 November 2011

Upon their arrival at the host university, students hand their enrolment slip from their home university to the departmental Erasmus Coordinator. A definitive Learning Agreement will be drawn up together with the departmental ECTS Coordinator and a copy of it sent to the home university. At the end of the study period, Lessius University College will provide the home university with a certified transcript of records and grading scale.

Residence Permit - Necessary Documents - Students from all countries

Incoming students, be it exchange or degree-seeking, must register with the Foreign Students Registration Office (the appropriate departmental service of the Belgian municipality where they will reside). The departmental co-ordinators will help you through the procedures, but make sure you have all the necessary documents and proofs ready. You can download the necessary documents on the 'documents' page.

Students must present the following documents to be registered with the Foreign Students Registration Office:

  • An identity information sheet (Identiteitsgegevens), duly completed and signed.
  • Two copies of your ID card or passport (identity sheet + photo + place and date of issue + date of expiry + (if applicable) visa + entrance stamp).
  • 1 original + 1 copy of the certificate of registration (degree-seeking students) or enrolment form as an Erasmus student at Lessius University College (certificate given upon arrival at Lessius University College);
  • Proof of subsidy / scholarship / financial guarantee / Erasmus mobility grant. Students who are not on such a grant or do not have a D-visa (student visa) have to fill in a document 'Liability of expenses'. Everyone who wants to extend his stay in Antwerp has to provide this document!
  • One copy of the rental agreement
  • Proof of a health insurance valid in Belgium (not applicable to exchange students from the EU + Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland).
  • 5 passport photographs (= 45 x 35 mm, head 30 x 20 mm,  white background, no sunglasses, no scarfs, no computer print-outs, no photocopies)

Students from neighbouring countries (France, Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg)

If you are still living with your parents and are regularly (1-2 times per month) traveling home, you are not required to register with the Dienst Vreemdelingenzaken. However you can apply for a residence permit if you feel you need it for some purpose. In that case you have to provide the following documents:

  • An identity information sheet (Identiteitsgegevens), duly completed and signed.
  • Two copies of your ID card or passport (identity sheet + photo + place and date of issue + date of expiry).
  • 1 original + 1 copy of the certificate of registration (degree-seeking students) or enrolment form as an Erasmus student at Lessius Hogeschool (certificate given upon arrival at Lessius University College);
  • Proof of subsidy / scholarship / financial guarantee / Erasmus mobility grant. Students who are not on such a grant have to provide a declaration of honour indicating that they have sufficient financial means.
  • 3 passport photographs (= 45 x 35 mm, head 30 x 20 mm,  white background, no sunglasses, no scarfs, no computer print-outs, no photocopies)

Do not go to the Registration Office yourself. Hand over all these documents to your departmental coordinator who will inform you of further steps to be taken.
