Department of Applied Psychology

Introduction

The Department of Applied Psychology started as a degree programme for Assistant Psychologists in 1952.

At present, the Department provides a professional BA in Applied Psychology. The Department’s graduates are experts in psychodiagnostics and psychological assistance and very often form professional teams with school managements, teachers, social workers, educators, physicians, human resource managers and psychologists.

The professional BA in Applied Psychology offers three majors:

  • The Industrial and Organizational Psychology Major focuses on job analysis and training, personnel recruitment, career guidance and market research.
  • In the School and Educational Psychology Major the main emphasis is on counselling for those with learning and development disabilities.
  • In the Clinical Psychology Major students acquire expertise in counselling and psycho-diagnostic methods for use in social services and mental health care.

The Department also offers postgraduate programmes in psycho-diagnostics and psycho-pedagogical counselling. The latter focuses on counselling and guidance for parents who experience difficulties in raising their children.

As of 2008, the Department will run an International Programme in English for exchange students. The programme consists of eight courses in clinical, educational and organizational psychology and is organized during each autumn semester.
